Jenny, when you called me this morning— can I interrupt my own thought for a second, just to say that I love that you are a caller? No one makes phone calls anymore, and I understand that many young people are relieved by this societal shift. But I spent my formative years with a landline phone fused to the side of my face, so I welcome your retro reach-outs. When we’re jawing away on the phone, I feel like it’s the ‘80s again and I’m wearing a funnel neck sweater and giant glasses as I cradle a mug of General Foods International Coffee and wait for my Le Menu to defrost. (Fuck, we were grown-ups once. Didn’t we almost have it all?)
